Today's walk is Luarca to La Caridad, and it promises to be a fairly lengthy walk, with one climb to about 200 meters, and then lots of smaller ups and downs... my favourite!

What's worse, the ankle I complained about yesterday has developed into a full blown shin splint, and I have a large lump on the front of my leg. These can morph into stress fractures, which would put an end to my camino, so I am a little concerned at the moment...

The day starts immediately with a climb out of Luarca..

As I continue to climb, I spot the ocean...

The very rarely spotted gourd cactus...

One of the countless little hamlets I have passed through...

Churches on every street corner...

I'll be on the other side of those mountains by the time the day is done...

Not sure how much they celebrate Halloween in Spain, but this was not the first yard I saw decorated, as well as several retail store windows, mostly in larger cities...

I've been walking for hours, looking for a restaurant or bar to refuel, and finding none, I instead run into a small variety store, and make this my lunch... Some salami, blue cheese, olives, an orange, and of course, my beloved Radler!

I think this guy was actually just wishing me a Buen Camino...

Another street corner...

These little brooks with waterfalls are always a pleasure to cross. .

Passing through the town of Navia...

Center of town...

These old buildings have seen better days, but they are still gourgeous, and hopefully somebody will give them new life..

Navia from the backside...

For your bovine viewing pleasure...

Worse than termites! These two were literally eating the wood off the house...

These public wash shelters are all over Northern Spain... and almost exclusively grown over and in disrepair... after doing my own handwashing for just a few weeks, I completely understand why!

The Way of St. James...

Your woodland trail pic of the day...

Okay, so I've made it to La Caridad, and my shin feels awful, but I've taken ibuprofen to help numb the pain, and all I can do is walk til I can't walk no more!

I choose a restaurant close to my hotel, and dont know what I will be eating, except it won't be Cachopo, as I've had it a few times already, and it just tastes like schnitzel to me... I feel like salad, so I order this plate, with all the fixings, and now, let me see what else is on the menu as a main course...

Wait, what? I just stumbled into a restaurant that, as the menu proudly states, won best Cachopo in 2021 for all of Asturias, and in 2022 was voted best Cachopo in Asturias, and 2ND BEST IN ALL OF SPAIN? This is my last and best chance to discover the secrets of this Asturian delicacy, from one of the best in Spain, no less... The secret, according to the menu, is the ham they use is from happy little pigs who only eat oak leaves, grass and chestnuts... The waiter gives me a knowing smile as he presents the masterpiece to me on a slate tile... I slice deferentially into the oversized steak milanesa... uhhh, I mean veal schnitzel... errrr, Cachopo... and wonder about all the other more interesting things I could have ordered for the 27 euros this dish just cost me...

On the bright side, there was enough to take half home, which I ate cold on the road the next day, and it pretty much still tasted like veal schnitzel...

Distance walked today- 32 kms

TOTAL DISTANCE TRAVELLED SO FAR- 687 KMS

Since I only learned about your posting a blog report of your adventures just last week, I've spent several days trying to get caught up on your prolific postings.

These are some of my thoughts about what I am seeing here.

First off, all of the highs and lows ( literally and figuratively), the pain and suffering, the moments of solitude and companionship are all necessary ingredients that go into making an epic journey.

You are in the midst of an epic trip and hopefully can continue on to your goal of completing your camino.

Second thought...you are mentally quite adept at dealing with the slings and arrows of outrageous misfortunes. The curve balls tossed your way. This is a…

Oh geez, 32kms on a sore leg. Yikes, be careful you don't get any long term problems.

That shnitzel looked great, as good as the Heimlat beer garden on Drouillard! (really have to go back there)

It seems like 30kms a day doesn't seem like much to you: that's pretty amazing, really.

I think you have about a week left; how do you feel so fast, overall, about your walk. Do you feel like you've learned anything about yourself or your outlook? Let us know!

I'm glad that sheep told you to F-off. 😀
