Okay first a couple of pics left over from yesterday... these are compliments of Serin..

ree

Playing 'La Rada' at the albergue in Ponzueta... all you have to do is throw a disk into the mouth of the frog... after many hundreds of throws, only two were able to achieve it...

ree

From the same pintxos bar I had the Sangria last night, these pintxos include a tortilla with cheese, a squid ink pintxos topped with fried calamari, a cream of chorizo, and a goat cheese pintxos.. In the foreground is a plate of patatas bravas...

ree

These were two of my pintxos at Gure Toki, one of the top bars in Bilbao... On the left is Cod with seaweed, and on the right is a Boiled egg with potato and mushroom...

ree

View from my albergue in Bilbao...

ree

A salted Cod shop...

ree

The stairs of Bilbao...

ree

Cafe con leche y un tortilla, por favor!

A little sightseeing before leaving Bilbao!

Did somebody say pintxos? Yes, please!

ree

A view along the river in Bilbao...

ree

I believe this is the train station in Bilbao...

ree

Bilbao City Hall...

ree

Approaching the Guggenheim...

ree

A sculpture near the museum...

ree

The Guggenheim Museum...

ree

The famous spider...

ree

Everybody should have their balls washed regularly...

ree

Winner of best Guggenheim picture is Serin and Jo, who took this photo at 7am as the sun was rising over the museum...

ree

Cool outdoor, living museum, where they salvaged old boats and actually work on restoring them as well as having them on display...

ree

Some of the boats they have on display. .

ree

The walk to Portugalete is long, hot, and made through mainly uninspiring industrial lands, but this old building stands out...

ree

Cool bridge construction coming into Portugalete...

Graffiti as art..

ree

Gasoline prices in Portugalete... For my American friends, add 10% for the exchange and then multiply by 3.78 to get from litres to gallons... ouch!

Finally arrived in Portugalete ...

ree

Here you can see the gondola car halfway across the river...

Upon entering the city, I rush to meet Serin and Jo, who are finishing lunch with Josh, whom we met several nights ago, and have been trying to hook up with. He waits around just longvenoughbto swap a couple of road stories, and then is off, and we all continue to our albergue for the evening. Loads of laundry and updated blog posts later, we make our way to a Mexican Cantina...

Frozen margaritas, one of my faves!

ree

Dinner is chicken enchiladas in sauce verde, which tastes much better than this picture looks! Then it's off to bed for a long walk tomorrow..

Distance walked today- 18kms

TOTAL DISTANCE WALKED SO FAR- 199KMS

Bilbao looks like it was an interesting stop! I love the outdoor escalators and I think we have that spider’s twin at the art museum in Ottawa.

The Guggenheim!?! The architecture ... the gigantic spider ... the shiny balls!

Speechless!

Curious now if you thought to weigh yourself before leaving home.

Your shadow is definitely trimmer as the days go by. Must be that Mediterranean diet?

Wowow, 200 kms is no small feat!

Bilboa looks like that town that Rocky guy ran up and down the stairs in in that movie!

'Everbody should wash thier balls regularly.' DON'T, just don't. It's also a bit tich coming from a Frenchman!

The food and markets looks really amazing, but that cod and boiled egg... I dunno!

Btw, a little bit v of wisdom: never use the escalator, always use the stairs - is good for exercise! Bet you didn’t think of that. 😉

Great job Lawrence! Keep it up!

I'm very surprised about the prices of gas though, as they are almost as high as the price in France (though we're even a bit higher) and from where I live, I go to Spain to get gas because it's normally much cheaper - here diesel is 1.97€ and in Spain we can get it at 1,50/1,60€. Maybe a difference between eastern and western sides of Spain!?
