Walking to Paradise

Okay, so maybe paradise is a bit of an exaggeration, but when you start with the kind of run down industrial area we've just been through, and arrive in Castro Urdiaes, it can certainly feel like heaven...

Strangely, the mountains are calling me...

Boy, was I right about the upcoming scenery...

Just a little Spanish villa in the countryside...

Bamboo, in Spain...

Fresh fig from a tree on the road...

More cowbell!

Playa Arena, on the way to Castro Urdiales...

Me, wanting to show you guys the beach and water up close, but not realizing how the natural world operates...

Me, suddenly understanding how the natural world operates...

Lesson learned!

Along the path, after climbing up a little...

Another view of the beach...

It's a great day for a walk...

Tankers in the ocean...

Okay, this scenery is just ridiculous. .

It really never gets old, does it?

A little birdie told me to really Live my Way...

Turns out, I rejoined the route in less than 5 minutes!

We haven't had any cat videos yet, right?

It's hard to tell, but there's a gas station in the background, and I've never been so happy to find one! The sun was blaring, I had to pee, and I was basically out of water...

A friend I met along the way...

First view of Castro Urdiales...

Getting closer...

I stop at Moe's, er, Mou's, along the way for a quick cerveza..

This property is for sale... My very own Spanish villa? Hmmmm....

A tunnel? I love tunnels!...

It was a cool tunnel, but it could have used disco lights and music.

Arrival! I really want to walk in the water, but the beach is still 1.5kms from the center of town..

After checking into my hotel and washing up, I head out onto the town, in search of a piece of fish...

I seek out Meson de Marinera which has been recommended to me, and am seated at a table with another couple as there is no other space, but I am unperturbed, as I have seen some of the food on offer...

I start with a terrine of scorpionfish mousse, topped with something close to a remoulade. Very yummy...

I cannot begin to describe how good this was... Grilled monkfish, served over sliced potatoes and fried garlic... served with the head of this ugly beast, so as to be able to eat the delicious cheeks!

Finished with a coconut creme caramel (flan) with whipped cream... all washed down with a couple glasses of Rioja fresca and an espresso to finish... If I ate like this every night, I'd have to walk 30 kms a day for the rest of my life!

Distance walked today... 25kms

TOTAL DISTANCE WALKED DO FAR- 224KMS

I look forward to your food posts every bit as much as your scenic posts, walking, weather, cows, acquaintances, ouchies, architecture, graffiti, bugs, observations of every kind.

Well, 25 kms in a day is really a long distance! It's hard to understand until you do it, im sure. You're doing it with 18 lbs on your back as well!

Seems you're eating really well and Im pretty sure id treat myself after a 25 km day!

Hi Lawrence it looks like another interesting day. Started out stating that you haven’t had a lot of seafood yet even though it looks like you had your fill of everything else. You almost became seafood if the tide got any higher of corse you got lost again talked to three cats that told you how to get back on track. You are now in a town that has good food so there goes the next three days before you try to walk again.
